Fire destroys four-bedroom bungalow in Ilorin
A gas explosion in Ilorin, Kwara State, destroyed a four-bedroom bungalow. Quick response from firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading, but the home suffered severe damage.
A devastating fire broke out on Thursday in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, completely destroying a four-bedroom bungalow. The incident, which took place at at No. 6, Phase 1, off Baba-Soja Street, Akerebiata, was reportedly caused by a gas explosion triggered by a housemaid.
According to a statement from Hassan Adekunle, spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, the fire department received an emergency call and immediately dispatched a team to the scene. Upon arrival, the firefighters found the entire bungalow engulfed in flames. With swift action and expert handling, they managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties.
Despite the rapid response, the fire caused extensive damage to the building, as the emergency call was delayed. Fortunately, the housemaid, who was present in the bungalow, escaped unharmed. The fire was traced back to the kitchen, where the maid had attempted to light the gas cooker. After several failed attempts to strike a match, a gas leak in the kitchen eventually led to an explosion, igniting the fire.
Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed his condolences to those affected by the incident. He urged the public to follow safety protocols when using gas appliances, emphasizing the importance of igniting matches before turning on gas to prevent such tragedies.
