Falz Gives Verydarkman 24 Hours to Retract Defamation
Falz issues a 24-hour ultimatum to social media personality Verydarkman, demanding a retraction and apology for defamatory claims linking him and his father to Bobrisky's alleged money laundering case.
Nigerian rapper Falz has given social media figure Verydarkman a strict 24-hour deadline to retract accusations that he helped Bobrisky escape money laundering charges.
This ultimatum followed the release of a viral audio by Verydarkman on September 24, 2024, in which Bobrisky alleged that certain EFCC officials had pocketed ₦15 million from him in exchange for dropping the charges. Bobrisky further claimed that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and his son played a key role in keeping him out of jail. Verydarkman took these allegations a step further, directly implicating Falz and his father, the prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana, in the affair. The shocking claims triggered a storm of reactions on social media, catapulting Falz into the spotlight as the topic went viral.
On September 25, 2024, Falz posted a legal response on his Instagram, where Verydarkman's statement, “I’ll be extremely disappointed if Falz and his father are truly involved in this Bobrisky issue,” was specifically referenced.
The legal notice declared, "The entire publication was a malicious, reckless attempt to tarnish our client’s reputation and diminish his standing in the eyes of the public. We demand an immediate and full retraction of these damaging claims, accompanied by a public apology across all platforms where this baseless accusation has been spread."
The notice concluded with a warning: "If we do not receive your formal retraction and apology within 24 hours of this notice, we will pursue legal action, including seeking financial compensation, for the harm caused by your defamatory statements."
