Brighton and Hove Albion cruised to a 3-0 victory at Everton, capping off a fantastic start for new coach Fabian Hurzeler.

A well-executed move involving summer addition Yankuba Minteh midway through the first half saw an unmarked Kaoru Mitoma tuck home an inviting cross at the back post, giving the visitors a well-deserved lead at halftime.

Following a foul by Lewis Dunk on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the home team believed they had regained possession of the ball at the beginning of the second half. However, VAR Darren England requested that referee Simon Hooper visit the pitchside monitor to reevaluate his call. Idrissa Gueye sent the ball straight to Mats Wieffer, who found Danny Welbeck, and the visitors quickly doubled their lead.

The on-field official felt there had been little touch and overturned his initial call. The 39-year-old became the oldest player to be sent off in Premier League history when he brought down Mitoma after the forward mishandled a long pass.

The forward still had plenty of work to do, though, as he finished with a deceptive disguised finish from the edge of the box. The hosts might have potentially suffered more when first-time replacement Simon Adingra scored a third goal late in the game.

Yasin Ayari, another substitute, believed he had made it 4-0 in stoppage time, but his celebration was cut short by a close VAR offside call.
