European Super League Set for 2025 Launch
The European Super League is set to launch in September 2025, with CEO Bernd Reichart aiming to provide fans with a better and more affordable football experience
The European Super League is set to launch in September next year, with its CEO promising an improved football experience for fans. Bernd Reichart, CEO of A22, the company behind the Super League, revealed in an interview with German magazine *Kicker* that they are moving forward with plans to debut the competition in 2025.
Reichart emphasized that lowering TV rights costs and enhancing the overall football product are key objectives. He mentioned that the new competition aims to provide fans with a more affordable and engaging experience through the use of new technologies.
The CEO also criticized the format of the Champions League, suggesting it hasn't lived up to expectations. He highlighted recent lopsided results in matches like Bayern Munich's 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb and Borussia Dortmund's 7-1 win against Celtic, stating that the Super League will prioritize more competitive matches with higher stakes. The proposed format includes a home-and-away system followed by playoffs.
The first attempt to launch the European Super League in 2021 faced widespread backlash, leading to several clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool, pulling out of the project.
