Youths numbering over 1000 have besieged the Kogi State Government House protesting over SARS violence in the state. The youngsters who blocked the gate of government barred everyone, including security personnel, government officials, access entering the compound. They maintain that the dissolution of SARS by Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu is insufficient to put an end to their demonstration. The demonstrators contend that the Nigerian police force needs a complete revamp. Despite efforts by the governor’s chief of staff, Jamiu Asuku, state security adviser Air Commodore Jerry Omodara, and other government officials to speak to them, they are requesting to see state governor Yahaya Bello.
Despite the state governor’s warning that certain thugs have seized the legitimate exercise to disband the infamous Special Anti Robbery Squad unit, which was founded in 1992, the protest is still going on. Recall that Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello had voiced concerns on Tuesday about its appropriation by individuals he characterized as criminals and thugs. Speaking to reporters at the Lugard residence in Lokoja, Governor Bello expressed his concern that the largely peaceful citizen protest was now in danger of degenerating into pointless attacks on government buildings and skirmishes with the police.
