Elliot Desmond reacts after accusations of supporting Anti Social Media Bill

After some Nigerians accused him of endorsing an anti-social media bill in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Nollywood actor and politician Desmond Elliot responded on social media. The Lagos State House of Assembly was apparently working on a measure to regulate and control speech on social media, according to tweets collected when Desmond Elliot trended on Twitter today, October 26. They continued by claiming that the aforementioned social media bill is intended to give Lagos State the ability to quickly detain young people who could continue to tweet about the Lekki Tollgate incident once it has been passed and put into effect. Their complaints are based on their opinion that, as Desmond Elliot is a young person himself, he ought to support the young people. Desmond Elliot, however, has stated that the Lagos State House of Assembly does not have a law to that effect, which runs counter to the aforementioned assertions. The only thing he stated regarding social media, according to Desmond Elliot, was that motivational speakers, celebrities, and other social media influencers refrain from spreading “hate narratives” about the October 20 Lekki Tollgate event.
