Ed Sheeran has publicly apologized to Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim after inadvertently interrupting his post-match interview following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Amorim, addressing the game with Sky Sports, was unexpectedly cut off when Sheeran, an Ipswich Town fan and minority stakeholder, approached pundit Jamie Redknapp for a chat.
The incident sparked mixed reactions on social media, prompting Sheeran to issue a statement via Instagram. “Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday,” Sheeran wrote. “Didn’t actually realize he was being interviewed at the time, just popped in to say hi and bye to Jamie. [Obviously] feel a bit of a b——, but life goes on. Great game though, congrats to all involved.”
Sheeran, who also serves as Ipswich Town’s front-of-shirt sponsor, watched as his team rallied to earn a point in Amorim’s first game as Manchester United manager, following his appointment as Erik ten Hag’s successor.
Looking ahead, Amorim’s team will face FK Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League at Old Trafford on Thursday, while Ipswich Town takes on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League this weekend.
