Early morning inferno razes shops in Dugbe market Ibadan
A fire at Dugbe market in Ibadan destroys goods worth millions of naira, consuming three shops. Prompt action by firefighters prevents further damage, and the cause is linked to improper refuse burning.
A massive fire broke out at Dugbe market in Ibadan, Oyo State, destroying goods worth millions of naira. The fire, which occurred early on Sunday, completely gutted three shops, though prompt action by the Oyo State Fire Agency prevented further destruction.
According to Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Agency, the incident was reported immediately, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene without delay. Upon arrival, three of the thirteen shops had already been consumed by flames, but the fire was contained before spreading to surrounding properties.
The cause of the fire was traced back to the careless burning of refuse by the shop occupants. Akinyinka urged residents to avoid indiscriminate burning of waste, particularly during the dry Harmattan season, to prevent such devastating incidents in the future. He also emphasized the importance of fire safety awareness and proper early-stage fire management to safeguard communities.
