Denzel Washington critiques social media, calling it a distortion of reality and a burden on today’s youth. Discover why the actor avoids Instagram and LinkedIn entirely.
Veteran American actor Denzel Washington has expressed concerns about the effects of social media on the younger generation. Speaking during a recent podcast interview with actor Paul Mescal, Washington shared his perspective on how digital platforms distort reality and create challenges that his generation did not face.
“I pray for your generation because we didn’t have to deal with what you’ve got to deal with. It’s our fault for putting it in your hands,” Washington said, reflecting on the overwhelming influence of constant online opinions.
He emphasized the pressure of being under the microscope, explaining: “There weren’t nine million opinions every moment of my day, people that liked you suddenly hating you without explanation.”
Washington also revealed that he avoids social media entirely, stating, “I never had an Instagram account or LinkedIn.” His comments underscore his belief that stepping away from such platforms may help individuals focus on genuine, offline interactions.
