Court remands 11 men for armed robbery in Ibadan
Eleven men remanded by an Ibadan court for alleged armed robbery, stealing goods and a motorcycle worth N340,000. Case adjourned for further legal advice.
An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has ordered the remand of 11 men in a correctional facility over an alleged armed robbery incident. The defendants, whose ages range from 21 to 30, include Musa Abdulahi, Abdulahi Sodiq, Umaru Dama, Usman Sule, Sule Abubakar, Muhammadu Abdulahi, Muhammed Bello, Musa Amu, Muhammed Abdulahi, Abu Abdulahi, and Muhammadu Abubakar.
The group faces charges of armed robbery, but Magistrate Gladys Oladele declined to take their pleas due to the court's lack of jurisdiction over such a serious offence. She directed the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal review and advice. The case has been adjourned until November 14 for mention.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Femi Omilana, the defendants allegedly committed the crime on September 13 at around 9:00 a.m. in the Saki area of Oyo State. Armed with guns and cutlasses, the suspects reportedly robbed two victims, taking three bags of soybeans valued at N60,000 from Mr. Moshood Isau and a motorcycle worth N280,000 from Mr. Ibrahim Yuma.
Omilana explained that the charges brought against the defendants fall under Section 1 (2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria, 2004, a serious statute that deals with armed robbery offenses. As the investigation unfolds, the court awaits the DPP's legal advice on the case.
