Court orders VeryDarkMan to pay Falanas N500m, delete defamatory posts
The Lagos State High Court orders social media critic VeryDarkMan to remove defamatory content about Femi Falana and Falz, awarding N500 million in damages for libel.
The Lagos State High Court has handed down a decisive ruling against controversial social media critic Martin Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, ordering him to remove defamatory statements and videos about renowned lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, Folarin Falana (Falz). The court also awarded a significant sum of N500 million as compensation for the damage caused to their reputations.
The ruling, delivered by Justice M. O. Idowu in case number ID/8584/GCM/2024, follows a legal dispute triggered by Otse's posts on September 24, 2024, which falsely linked Bobrisky to both Falz and his father. According to the court, Otse knowingly published these false allegations with the intent to tarnish their public image.
The judgment not only demands the removal of the defamatory content from Otse's social media accounts but also highlights that the injury to the Falanas' reputation remains as long as the posts continue to circulate online. This ruling marks a significant victory for the Falanas in defending their names against false public accusations.
