Court Dismisses Femi Falana’s N1 Billion Defamation Suit Against Activist VeryDarkMan

In a dramatic turn of events, an Ikeja High Court on Tuesday struck out a high-profile N1 billion defamation suit filed by renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, rapper Falz, against Instagram activist Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM).

The case originated from allegations tied to an audio recording by cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, which suggested that Falana and his son were involved in obstructing justice. VDM had shared his opinions about the matter on social media, prompting the Falana family to demand N500 million each in damages.

However, during the court session, none of the involved parties were present. VDM’s legal counsel, Niyi Alagbe, informed the court about a pending application for a stay of proceedings, which had been filed before Justice Fimisola Azeez.

Justice Matthias Dawodu, upon reviewing the matter, noted that the application was not in the court’s file and criticized the procedural confusion, as the case had already been reassigned. Declaring further proceedings unnecessary, he dismissed the case, calling it a “mere academic exercise.”
