Recently, more information has emerged regarding the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. Following the passing of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, several controversies have arisen. These include claims from his father about releasing an album, his wife alleging that she was denied royalties from her late husband’s streaming earnings and getting death threats daily, and Naira Marley, the label’s boss, posting conversations he had with someone prior to Mohbad’s death. Many Nigerians suspect that Naira Marley and other members of the label were involved in the artist’s tragic demise. However, a new update has been released following court proceedings.
On February 25, the Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, discharged and acquitted singer Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, his associate Samson Balogun Eletu (commonly known as SamLarry), Owodunni Ibrahim (also known as Primeboy), and Mohbad’s manager, Opere Babatunde. They were all cleared of any involvement in the case surrounding Mohbad’s death.

According to Channels TV, Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje announced the court’s decision after reviewing the legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) of Lagos, which concluded that there was no case to answer regarding the late singer’s passing.

However, the DPP has stated that it will proceed to prosecute the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, along with one of his friends, Ayobami Sadiq, for reckless and negligent acts, as defined by Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law, Ch C.17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The two individuals will face trial in the Magistrate Court. Mohbad died under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023. In the aftermath of his passing, Naira Marley and Sam Larry faced accusations of bullying Mohbad while he was alive, leading to their arrest and court charges by the police.
