A tragic incident has unfolded at the Burra Correctional Centre in Bauchi State, where a correctional officer reportedly killed his colleague following a minor dispute over food.
The unfortunate event took place on Tuesday around 2 p.m. in Burra town, Ningi Local Government Area. According to a witness who requested anonymity, the officers involved, Aliyu Abubakar Chiroma and Kabiru Abubakar, were known to be close friends before the altercation.
The argument reportedly started when Chiroma brought his lunch, and Kabiru insisted on sharing it, escalating into a fatal confrontation.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the correctional centre, Aminu Ahmed, clarified that the altercation occurred outside the facility. He also shared that the deceased officer, Chiroma, hailed from Giade LGA, while the suspect, Kabiru, is from Dass LGA. Both had been posted to the Burra Correctional Centre.
Ahmed further revealed that Chiroma’s body has been released to his family for burial, while Kabiru is currently in police custody as investigations into the matter continue. Efforts to reach the Command’s spokesperson for additional comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
