Comedian Bovi demands justice after a viral video involving a priest goes viral
Nigerian comedian Bovi has taken to social media to express outrage over a viral video showing a Catholic priest physically disciplining an altar boy.
Nigerian stand-up comedian Bovi has called out a viral video revealing a Catholic priest beating up an altar boy. This happened during the wedding ceremony of a priest who was heard to have brought the boy's misfortune when he did not hold the microphone correctly. The video soon went viral, drawing a lot of negative publicity.
Bovi fumed, saying that the boy was embarrassed and his self-esteem eroded. He was fuming at the priest for apologizing and calling what was done a simple correction. Bovi dismissed this as an understatement of physical maltreatment while calling for the perpetrators to be brought to book. He also complained to the parents of the boy for equally protecting the priest instead of reporting the abuse.
The comedian then urged the Nigerian authorities, especially the Nigerian Police, to act on the matter, which the comedian said was violent and criminal. Bovi pointed out that when such an occurrence occurs, it leads to a culture of precedents where any allegations of abuse are covered up, especially when the priest is involved. His stand relates to the social issue of making abuse a norm, particularly in Nigeria.
