Nigerian entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has opened up about surviving prostate cancer and his mission to raise awareness about men’s health and mental well-being. Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, Charly Boy highlighted the importance of openness when dealing with health challenges.
“I survived prostate cancer, and it’s only because of my openness. I’m encouraging Nigerian men to talk about their struggles, particularly with mental health and prostate issues, which are taking many lives,” he said.
The veteran entertainer launched the Charly Boy Foundation to tackle the stigma around men expressing vulnerability. “Men are brainwashed to think crying makes them weak, but I cry when something touches my soul. It’s better to express your feelings than pretend to be strong,” he added.
Charly Boy stressed the importance of early detection and open communication, particularly with family and trusted individuals. He also shared his treatment journey, noting he underwent surgery at Reddington Hospital, Lagos, performed by a doctor dedicated to Corporate Social Responsibility.
His foundation aims to break the silence surrounding men’s health and inspire more men to seek help and embrace vulnerability.
