Burna Boy Mocks Miss South Africa 2024
Burna Boy mocks Miss South Africa 2024 following the controversial disqualification of mixed-heritage contestant Chidimma Adetshina from the pageant.
Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Burna Boy, also known as the African Giant, took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock the newly crowned Miss South Africa 2024. His post comes in the wake of a controversy involving Chidimma Adetshina, a contestant with mixed Nigerian-South African heritage, who was ultimately canceled from the pageant.
Chidimma Adetshina was born in 2001 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto to a Nigerian father of Igbo descent and a mother who is either Mozambican or Zulu South African, depending on differing reports. Despite proving her South African nationality to the authorities, her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant was marred by controversy, leading to her disqualification.
Burna Boy’s post, which featured a picture of the newly crowned Miss South Africa, was captioned, "So after all that…," seemingly mocking the outcome of the pageant. His comment sparked discussions on social media, with many comparing the beauty of the canceled Chidimma and the newly crowned queen, further fueling the debate on cultural identity and heritage in South Africa.
