Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy has refuted claims of receiving gifts from any politician, including the promises made by the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Burna Boy stated that he has never received any monetary gifts or land from politicians. This follows the unfulfilled promises made by then-Rivers governor Wike in 2021.

In 2021, Wike had announced during a reception at the Government House in Port Harcourt that he would be giving Burna Boy, a native of Rivers State, a piece of land and a monetary gift for winning the Grammy Award. Wike said:
“I always love to support young talents because it’s not easy to keep pursuing what you love to do especially when your government does little or nothing to show their support or appreciation. However, Burna Boy and so many other artists have been putting in their best to their career to ensure that we keep going globally and because of this I will be giving him a land in Old GRA, Port Harcourt and money to build.”
However, two months later, Burna Boy’s manager and mother, Bose Ogulu, revealed that the artist did not receive any gifts from the governor.
In Thursday’s post, Burna Boy reiterated the lack of follow-through on the promises made by Wike, confirming that no land or money was ever received.
This declaration by Burna Boy has sparked conversations and mixed reactions among his followers and the general public, as it highlights the issue of unfulfilled political promises and the authenticity of public support for artists.
