BREAKING: US election: Kamala Harris picks VP

Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, has been selected by US Vice President Kamala Harris to be her running mate in the November presidential election. Donald Trump, a Republican and former president, will oppose Harris. After emerging as a dark horse candidate, 60-year-old Walz has already defeated more well-known candidates, most notably Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, and Mark Kelly, the senator from Arizona, who dominated the early debates.

The governor of Minnesota has seen a significant increase in media attention in the past week, particularly following a widely shared interview in which he called certain Republicans "weird." National Democrats later embraced this line of attack. Due to his liberal credentials and the fact that some of the other candidates had faced criticism from, many people see Walz as a safer pick for Harris.

Union officials were incensed at both Shapiro and Kelly for their handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations that erupted following the Israel-Hamas conflict, and Shapiro was under intense criticism lately for this reason.

The fact that Walz is from a Midwestern state that Trump has been focusing more and more on turning just serves to increase his appeal. Trump and his running mate JD Vance have increased their efforts to campaign in Minnesota, despite the fact that Biden won the state by seven points in 2020 and that no Republican has won the presidential contest there in more than 50 years.
