Breaking: Kidnappers demand N1 billion ransom from former member of Representatives and Delta Commissioner

The former Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education Joan Mrakpor's kidnappers have demanded a N1 billion ransom in exchange for her release.

There is a link between the kidnapped former commissioner's family and her captors. The source, who is helping the family get her released, revealed that the kidnappers want N1 billion in ransom to release her. "Yes, the abductors have gotten in touch with Mrakpor's family and are requesting a N1 billion ransom in order to release her.

"However, the family said they don't have that much money. Discussions are ongoing as we speak, but they are dragging on. I am aware that she will be freed as soon as a compromise is struck."

The family source sharply refuted rumors that Mrakpor had been freed, calling them a "rumor from the pit of hell," in contrast to reports that had been going about on. The insider vehemently denied that the rumor of her early Thursday morning release was true. However, we are hoping that the rumor becomes true," the person stated.

When asked about the purported release of Mrakpor and the claimed N1 billion ransom, SP Bright Edafe of the Delta State Police Public Relations Office said that the police were not aware of any information on her release.

On July 30, 2024, at around 4 p.m., the former member of the House of Representatives and Assembly was abducted by armed men from her church, King Jesus.

The gunmen surprised Mrakpor, reportedly dispersing the gathering with their indiscriminate fire before kidnapping her and making their getaway in a speedboat that was waiting at the River Niger. Two police officers and a POS operator, who was allegedly hit by a stray bullet, were killed in the attack.

In the past, Mrakpor had given up her job to support her younger brother's candidacy for Aniocha South Local Government Council chairman.

Due to her brother's desire to become chairman while she was in the state government cabinet, there were numerous protests against her before she resigned.
