Boy, 20, kills 65-year-old woman over N3000 in Ondo

Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as the Amotekun Corps, have apprehended a 20-year-old man, Friday Akinmade, for the alleged murder of a 65-year-old woman in Owo, Ondo State. Akinmade reportedly attacked the woman with a plank, accusing her of stealing N3,000 from his room.
During a press briefing in Akure, Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye highlighted a surge in crime, seemingly fueled by economic hardship. “We’re seeing more cases of burglary, attempted murder, and malicious damage,” he noted.
Among the other arrests, a 30-year-old man was detained for attempted murder, cult activities, and attacking law enforcement. Another 42-year-old, identified as Gbenro, allegedly assaulted Amotekun officers in an attempt to cover his illegal dealings.
Further apprehensions included Samuel Peter, 21, linked to attempted murder, and Segun Owolabi, 20, who specialized in motorcycle theft. Additionally, a burglary gang led by Toba, Pelumi, Ogumade, and Oriade, aged 22 to 25, was also arrested. Lastly, Shegwo Yusuf faces charges of malicious property damage.
The arrests underscore the challenges posed by rising crime rates as the economy places increasing pressure on communities across the region.
