Bovi makes U-Turn, apologizes for comments on parenting
Bovi apologizes after backlash over his gentle parenting comments, clarifying his stance while netizens debate his approach.
Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugbomma has backtracked and issued an apology following backlash over his comments on gentle parenting.
Earlier, while speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Bovi revealed he does not beat his children, sharing an instance where his son broke their television in anger. Instead of punishing him, Bovi said he chose to let him be. His remarks quickly sparked outrage online, with many accusing him of promoting poor discipline and raising a child unable to control his emotions.
Addressing the uproar on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter), Bovi clarified his stance, offering an apology while standing firm on his parenting style.
"I don go trigger angry people because of the phrase I used. For the fun of it. Make una no vex. In trying to color my point, I’ve offended a shallow mob. You don’t have to agree with me. If you have children you want to beat, enjoy. My papa no physically beat me and I turned out almost ok," he wrote.
Despite his apology, reactions continue to pour in, with netizens divided over Bovi’s parenting philosophy and the boundaries of gentle parenting.
