Bolanle Ninalowo explains why he approved daughter’s piercing request
Bolanle Ninalowo opens up about supporting his daughter Aliyah’s navel piercing, seeing it as an opportunity to strengthen their bond, while reflecting on his parenting approach after his separation.
Renowned Nollywood actor Bolanle Ninalowo recently shared a deeply personal insight into his decision to support his daughter Aliyah in getting a navel piercing, describing it as an important moment to strengthen their father-daughter relationship. In an open conversation with media personality VJ Adams, Ninalowo explained how Aliyah, who had just turned 18, initially wanted to pierce her tongue. However, Ninalowo felt uneasy about the idea and suggested she consider alternatives.
Reflecting on the conversation, Ninalowo recalled, "I remember one day my daughter woke me up and said she wanted a tongue ring, and I was like, what! I could never have said that to my dad. I couldn’t even tell him I wanted to grow a beard." Understanding that her friends were getting piercings, Ninalowo recognized the peer pressure and took time to reflect before suggesting the navel piercing as a more manageable option. "I wouldn’t want to kiss a girl with a tongue ring, but think about something else," he said to Aliyah, who later suggested the navel piercing.
For Ninalowo, the navel piercing became more than just a cosmetic choice; it was an opportunity to connect with Aliyah and show trust. "I drove her there myself. As much as I would rather not want that, it was a chance for me to connect, so I wouldn’t stop that," he explained.
The actor also touched on his evolving parenting style following his separation from his wife, Bunmi, last year, due to irreconcilable differences. Despite the challenges, Ninalowo remains committed to his two children, Aliyah and their son Morakinyo, and continues to prioritize their relationship.
