Bob-Manuel Udokwu Responds to Idris Elba's Role as Okonkwo in "Things Fall Apart"
Nollywood actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu shares his thoughts on Idris Elba's casting as Okonkwo in the upcoming adaptation of Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart," praising Nigeria's talented actors and the growing collaboration between Nollywood and Hollywood.
Nollywood actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu has responded to the news that Hollywood star Idris Elba will play the main role of "Okonkwo" in a TV version of Chinua Achebe's important book "Things Fall Apart. "
Variety recently reported that a new series is being developed by A24, with Elba Elba and Gina Carter as executive producers through their company, 22Summers. In an interview with Channels TV, Udokwu said he doesn't mind Elba playing the main role, but he believes Nigeria has great actors who can do it even better.
There's been talk about Idris Elba being chosen to play Okonkwo in Hollywood's version of Things Fall Apart."I don't mind that as an actor, but I believe we have amazing actors in Nigeria who could do an even better job because they understand the story well," he said. He also said that the current partnership between Nollywood and other film industries is a good thing.
"Things Fall Apart" is the first book in Achebe's well-known African Trilogy, which also includes "No Longer at Ease" and "Arrow of God." Earlier versions have included a movie and a miniseries, with Pete Edochie playing the role of Okonkwo in the miniseries.
