Boat mishap claims 21 lives in Lagos, 11 rescued
A boat accident in Imore Town, Lagos, has claimed over 21 lives after two unregistered boats collided and capsized. Emergency responders rescued 11 passengers, while search efforts continue for victims.
A tragic boat accident in Imore Town, located in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State, has claimed at least 21 lives. Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, explaining that the police received an emergency call on Monday reporting a collision between two unregistered passenger boats, each carrying 16 passengers, in the middle of the lagoon.
The impact caused both boats to capsize, sending passengers and their goods into the water. Emergency responders, including marine police, local divers, and other rescue teams, quickly arrived at the scene. Eleven passengers were rescued with injuries and transported to Navy Hospital in Alakija for urgent medical care.
Search and rescue operations continue as efforts are underway to recover the bodies of the remaining victims. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident, as authorities work to uncover the details behind the devastating incident.
