“Being in a relationship doesn’t define me”- Jennifer Lopez speaking after her recent divorce with Ben Affleck
Jennifer Lopez opens up about her divorce and personal growth. She says she's finally happy being alone and has learned to love herself before letting others love her
Regarding her recent split from Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez has been candid. She claims that being alone is making her feel content and at ease for the first time in her life. She discussed how she's come to appreciate and find pleasure within herself rather than depending on other people in an interview with Nikki Glaser for Interview Magazine.
She said, “Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself.” Glaser asked her, "I think we all know you have to love yourself before you can let someone else love you. We know that, but do we practice it? Do you feel now you’re practising it?"
Lopez responded saying, "That, to me, is a scary thing too, or a confusing thing, because it’s like, 'Oh, you couldn’t love me if I have flaws. I have to be perfect to be loved.' That’s not true! Somebody who truly loves you will help you heal those parts of yourself. That’s what I’ve learned about love, that it is a secure thing."
Jennifer shared that she's "not looking for anybody" at the moment and is perfectly content with that.
"For those who are romantics and love being in relationships, thinking they need someone to grow old with to feel complete and happy, we believe, 'I need that to be whole.' But you really don't," she explained.
