Bayern Munich CEO shoots at Chelsea following transfer decision

Following their 2023–24 Bundesliga title loss, Bayern Munich will be gunning for another title under new manager Vincent Kompany in 2024–25. Kompany and sporting director Max Eberl spoke to the media on the eve of their season opener. Eberl also poked fun at Chelsea for their overinflated squad while explaining why they sold Matthijs de Ligt.

In response to a question concerning the current roster, Eberl outlined every choice made during the current summer transfer window, including De Ligt's departure to join Manchester United. The Bayern manager also made fun of Chelsea, one of the biggest teams in the Premier League, when discussing the value of having a smaller roster. "When you plan a squad, you obviously want to have a squad free of injuries," Eberl remarked in an interview with media. It is not good to inflate a squad. With a sizable roster, we aim to provide our young players with the chance to demonstrate their abilities at the highest level.
