Basketmouth Addresses Rumors About Leaving Comedy for Filmmaking

Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, widely known as Basketmouth, has clarified that he has no plans to abandon comedy despite his recent foray into filmmaking. Speaking at the premiere of his first feature film, A Ghetto Love Story, Basketmouth assured fans that his success in movie production would not overshadow his commitment to stand-up comedy.

The comedian revealed that he will embark on an extensive comedy tour starting in 2025, including stops in the UK, the US, and Nigeria. However, he stated he would no longer take on private gigs such as acting as a master of ceremonies (MC) at weddings, as he believes it detracts from his artistic focus.

“I’m still into comedy. From next year, I’m going on tour—UK, US, and Nigeria. Comedy is still going strong, and I’m not stopping. The only thing I’ve stopped is private gigs, like weddings. Though they pay well, I felt I was adulterating the art. I’m focused on stand-up, delivering my craft as it should be,” Basketmouth explained.

His comments highlight his dedication to preserving the integrity of stand-up comedy while exploring new ventures in the entertainment industry.
