August 1st Hardship protest gathers momentum in Nigeria
In the lead-up to the anticipated national #EndBadGovernance demonstration, a few organizers who were previously identified only as "faceless" have disclosed their names.
They also stated that they would not be deterred and that they would take to the streets on August 1 to protest against hunger, suffering, and incompetent leadership.
The organizations, which number at least 26, have declared their intention to protest the current state of hunger, hardship, and poor governance by taking to the streets.
The groups had also written to the governments of at least twenty states, requesting authorization to utilize state-owned facilities in order to fulfill their civic obligations.
Concerned Nigerians, Nigerians Against Hunger, Initiative for Change, Take it Back Movement, Revolution Now, Human Rights Co-Advocacy Group, Nigerians Against Corruption Initiative, Citizens for Change Advocacy Initiative, Timely Intervention, and Active Citizens Group are a few of the groups seeking a protest.
Additional organizations include, but are not limited to, Students for Change, We Coalition, Total Intervention, Refurbished Nigeria, Tomorrow Today, Our Future in Our Own Hands Initiative, Youths Against Tyranny, and Call a Spade a Spade Movement.
One of the organizers, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, Convener of the Revolution Now Movement, has made public a list of the states and Federal Capital Territory where the next #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest would take place.
He claimed that the purpose of the demonstration was to draw attention to the nation's government.
