Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede that occurred at a funfair in Islamic High School, Orita Bashorun, Ibadan.

Authorities have confirmed the death of 35 minors, with seven suspects arrested in connection to the disaster.

In a heartfelt post on his official X account, Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed his grief and prayed for comfort for the victims' families.

“How do we explain to nearly three dozen parents that the children they sent to a holiday funfair in Ibadan will not be coming back, not even late for Christmas?” he wrote.

Atiku’s message continued, “I am heartbroken, like millions of Nigerians, over the tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families, and I pray that Almighty God comforts them and heals the injured.”

He concluded with, “May the beautiful souls of the deceased rest in peace.”
