Arewa Consultative Forum Urges Tinubu to Revise Economic Policies Amid Rising Hardship
The Arewa Consultative Forum calls on President Tinubu to revise economic reforms, warning that current policies are worsening poverty, particularly in the North. They urge humane and inclusive strategies to address food insecurity and systemic challenges.
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reassess his economic reforms, citing the severe hardships faced by Nigerians, particularly in the northern region.
Following its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kaduna on Wednesday, the ACF issued a communiqué signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba. The statement criticized current economic policies for exacerbating poverty and called for more compassionate, inclusive approaches to address the challenges.
The forum highlighted the northern region’s unique struggles, including widespread food insecurity, limited access to education and skills training, and a reliance on small-scale economic activities for survival. It stressed the urgency of targeted interventions to alleviate these systemic issues, noting, “If the people cannot survive today, they won’t be alive to enjoy the promised benefits tomorrow.”
While acknowledging the necessity of reforms, the ACF warned that poorly implemented policies risk deepening the hardships they are meant to alleviate. It urged President Tinubu to adopt a more humane approach and to consider feedback from stakeholders to improve governance and economic outcomes for citizens.
