“Apologize for what?” – Kanayo backs Davido on Nigeria’s economy comment
Nollywood veteran Kanayo O. Kanayo defends Davido's controversial comments on Nigeria's economy, urging Nigerians to respect the singer's freedom of speech and focus on building a better nation.
Nollywood icon Kanayo O. Kanayo has come forward in defense of Afrobeats superstar Davido, following the controversy sparked by the singer's remarks on Nigeria's ailing economy. In a recent interview, Davido advised African Americans against relocating to Africa, specifically highlighting Nigeria's economic challenges, a comment that has since ignited widespread criticism.
In a video posted from the UK, Kanayo urged Nigerians to honor Davido's right to free speech. He dismissed the calls for an apology, explaining that the singer's comments were made with good intentions, aimed at highlighting the struggles faced by ordinary Nigerians, despite his wealth.
Kanayo argued, "We need to respect Davido’s opinion. He is speaking out for the common man, not for himself. People who are attacking him need to remember that it’s freedom of speech, and he spoke from the heart." He further emphasized, "Davido may have a privileged life, but his heart is with the people who are suffering. Those in power should focus on improving the country instead of silencing voices like his."
