APC Secretariat in Port Harcourt Attacked Ahead of Local Elections

In the early hours of Saturday, October 5, 2024, as residents got ready to vote in local government elections, an attack occurred at the APC secretariat on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The building was engulfed in flames, with its gates and doors blown apart by an explosion.

According to eyewitness reports, around 3:20 a.m., a group of armed young men arrived and set off an explosive. When the first explosion failed to detonate, they returned and set the structure on fire. "The security house is gone," Okocha, the APC chairman, told Channels TV in an interview, adding that the fire was partially extinguished by local residents.

Okocha accused Governor Siminalyi Fubara of being behind the attack, claiming it was a deliberate effort to undermine the APC. "This is not a voting unit. They are trying to embarrass and weaken us," he said.

As of now, the police have not commented on the incident, but local government elections are still expected to proceed as planned.
