Amotekun arrests family of seven for allegedly stealing bags of rice from orphanage in Ondo
Amotekun Corps arrests a family of seven in Akure for stealing rice from an orphanage, highlighting ongoing security efforts in Ondo State. 20 other suspects also paraded.
A family of seven has been arrested by the Ondo State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, for allegedly stealing bags of rice in Akure. The suspects, John Agbor, 42, his wife Mary Agbor, 38, along with their five children, were apprehended after the theft occurred at an orphanage in Shagari Village, Akure.
John, who worked as a security guard at the orphanage, admitted during the parade at Amotekun's Alagbaka headquarters that the children at the orphanage convinced him to steal the rice, promising a share of the money in return. However, investigations revealed that John, his wife, and their children were all involved in the crime.
Corps Commander Adetunji Adeleye explained that the entire family had turned to theft, saying, “This family specializes in breaking into houses—the father, mother, and their children. We won’t be parading the minors for obvious reasons, but the father, mother, and two boys are involved in the crime, with the other three being too young.”
The Amotekun Corps also presented 20 other suspects, involved in various crimes across the state. In addition, Adeleye commended the Amotekun Rangers for their successful operations in combing the notorious Elegbeka forest, where they foiled five kidnapping attempts and rescued nine victims. This arrest of the Agbor family, alongside other criminal operations, highlights the ongoing efforts of the corps to restore order and security in Ondo State.
