Aisha Yesufu calls senate president Akpabio ‘irresponsible elected politician’
Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu slams Senate President Godswill Akpabio, calling him 'irresponsible' for downplaying citizens' hardships and failing to hold the executive accountable.
In a blistering critique, Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has labeled Senate President Godswill Akpabio as the “most irresponsible elected official” in the country. She accuses him of consistently trivializing the hardships Nigerians face, especially with his frequent remarks about food, which she finds tone-deaf.
Yesufu condemned Akpabio’s recent comments suggesting that citizens should seek free food during difficult times, calling it a sign of his detachment from the struggles of ordinary Nigerians. She questioned, “Is that the response to the hardship people are enduring?” as she highlighted the growing crises in health, education, and basic needs across the nation.
The activist further criticized Akpabio for failing to hold President Tinubu and the executive branch accountable for policies that have worsened Nigeria’s economic challenges. Yesufu stated, “If Akpabio wasn’t an irresponsible Senate president, Tinubu should be made to answer why Nigerians are suffering.”
She also accused Akpabio of diminishing the National Assembly’s prestige, stating that his leadership reflects a “house boy mentality” rather than that of a powerful political leader. Yesufu concluded by insisting that real leadership requires addressing the needs of the people, not offering empty words in the face of their struggles.
