Described as “beautiful” and “heartwarming,” Christmas in Lagos is set to premiere on Prime Video this December. The film promises to capture the essence of Nigeria's vibrant holiday season, with Osiberu paying tribute to the beloved tradition of Detty December—a time when Lagos comes alive with festive celebrations, transforming the city into a dazzling holiday wonderland.
The plot centers around Fiyin, who, after a painful heartbreak, becomes convinced that her best friend, Elo, is her true soulmate. However, the story takes a twist when Elo returns from New York, intending to propose to his secret girlfriend, Yagazie. In another storyline, 59-year-old Gbemi faces a challenging decision as she is torn between her longtime boyfriend and her high school sweetheart. Additionally, London-born Ivie returns to Lagos seeking the ultimate Detty December experience but unexpectedly finds herself falling in love with Ajani.
The film boasts an impressive Nollywood cast, including veterans like Shaffy Bello, Wale Ojo, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and rising stars such as Shalom C. Obiago, Rayxia Ojo, Teniola Aladese, Angel Anosike, and Folu Storms. The cast is further enriched by appearances from Nigerian Afrobeats stars Waje and Ladipoe, adding a musical flair to this holiday tale.
Jade Osiberu, the creative force behind hits like Gangs of Lagos, Sugar Rush, Brotherhood, and Isoken, has once again assembled a project that promises to resonate with audiences. Her latest film is not just a love letter to Lagos but also a celebration of the culture, energy, and romance that define the city's holiday season.
As anticipation builds for the release of Christmas in Lagos, fans can look forward to a film that blends the charm of Nollywood storytelling with the infectious rhythms of Afrobeats, creating a cinematic experience that is sure to be both entertaining and unforgettable.
