Adamawa State Govt Bans Scavenging
The Adamawa State Government bans scavenging statewide, effective August 14, 2024. Violators face arrest, prosecution, and up to six months in prison under a new executive order signed by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
The Adamawa State Government has officially banned all scavenging activities across the state. Governor Ahmadu Fintiri formalized the ban by signing an executive order on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. This order, which took immediate effect, prohibits scavenging in all 21 local government areas of Adamawa State until further notice.
Governor Fintiri's Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, elaborated in a statement issued to the press, defining scavenging as "the act of rummaging through waste or engaging in any activity that poses a nuisance or health hazard." The new order makes it clear that anyone caught scavenging will be committing a criminal offense, subject to arrest and prosecution.
Security forces across the state have been authorized to enforce the order by searching for and arresting violators. Furthermore, the order warns that any attempt to undermine or obstruct its enforcement will result in prosecution under the relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, and the Adamawa State Penal Code Law 2018.
Violators of the order could face severe penalties, including a prison sentence of up to six months, ensuring that the ban is strictly upheld.
