According to circulating reports, the arrest occurred yesterday while the activist was at a GTBank branch. He was seeking clarification on suspicious deductions from his mother’s account. VDM had claimed the deductions were linked to alleged unpaid loans. He refuted these claims strongly and demanded a full statement of account from the bank.

However, while still inside the bank premises, EFCC officials reportedly stormed the building and took him into custody.
According to VDM’s younger brother, the activist was locked inside the bank’s entrance booth moments before the EFCC’s arrival. He further alleged that his brother was beaten, hooded, and taken away without being shown an arrest warrant. He equated these actions to kidnapping, not a lawful arrest.
This development follows VDM’s recent online attacks against the EFCC, calling them “the most corrupt body in Nigeria.” He criticized them particularly after the controversial arrest of celebrity businessman E-Money.
The timing of VDM’s own arrest has fueled suspicions of retaliation. His arrest seems linked to his vocal stance on corruption and abuse of power by government institutions.

Known for his bold commentaries, activism, and fearlessness, VeryDarkMan has carved a space as one of Nigeria’s most talked-about online voices. Though controversial, he’s gained recognition for speaking against oppression, fake news, and social injustice.
His arrest has stirred conversations about abuse of power by state bodies and the shrinking space for dissent in Nigeria.
As of now, VDM remains in custody. Many are calling for his immediate release and transparency regarding the circumstances of his arrest. The EFCC is yet to issue an official statement.
