HOW VYBZ KARTEL LANDED IN PRISON FOR 13 YEARS (A case of mùrder)
On Tuesday, August 16, 2011, Vybz Kartel invited two of his associates, Clive 'Lizard' Williams and Lenard Chow, to his house to discuss two of his missing guns. On the way to Kartel's house, Lizard texted his girlfriend and informed her that they were going to Vybz Kartel's house to admit that they were responsible for the lost guns. Lizard added that he was very scared and that he was shaking.
Lizard and Chow finally arrived at Vybz's house, where they pleaded with him in his living room, stating that they would pay him back after admitting they were responsible for the missing guns. While they begged, a DJ named Kahira Jones grabbed hold of Lizard.
Chow ran into another room, and when he came back, he saw Lizard's body lying mòtionless on the floor, with Vybz's barber, André 'Mad Suss' St. John, beside him holding a building block in his hand. At that point, Lizard was suspected to have passed away.
Vybz and his conspirators allegedly chòpped him into p!eces so small that they continue to elude detectives to this day, and his body is still missing. In September 2011, just when Vybz Kartel thought everything had been swept under the carpet, he was arrested at a hotel in Kingston on charges of marijuana possession, and his phones were seized.
After locking him behind bars for three days, the police slapped him with murder charges, claiming he had gunned down club promoter Barrington 'Bossie' Burton in St. Catherine. Later, the court found him not guilty of that charge. They then accused him of being responsible for the k!lling of his close associate, Clive 'Lizard' Williams, after obtaining phone conversations and text messages from his seized phones that painted a horr!fic image of how Lizard's b0dy was disposed of. One of the texts that was sent from his phone read: "Tween me an u a chop we chop up the bwoy Lizard fine fine," "Yeah man a mince meat dat… As long as u live dem can never find him." In an audio recording Vybz was heard saying: "Dem cyan find two of mi shoes wey dem have… Mi a kill one of dem." ("Shoes" is slang for guns.)
They also had Vybz on tape allegedly ordering Shawn "Storm" Campbell, another DJ to help him in offing Lizard, saying; "You a mind reader brethren, because me nah killup myself." Additional revelations indicate that those involved in the murder reportedly tried to eliminate the evidence by setting the house on fire.
However, since the house was not completely destroyed, some evidence, including blood stains, was recovered from the scene. Following a long trial in Kingston, one of the longest in Jamaican history, Vybz and his conspirators were convicted in 2014.
Vybz was initially sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 35 years, which was later reduced to 32-and-a-half years on appeal.
