Nigerian rapper Reminisce reveals his reluctance for his children to pursue music careers, citing industry struggles and emphasizing the importance of education as a priority over music. Nigerian rapper Reminisce has expressed his reservations about his children pursuing music careers, citing the harsh realities of the industry during a recent interview on Pulse On The Record alongside fellow rapper Vector the Viper. He emphasized that his stance comes from personal experience, stating, “No, I don’t want my children to do music, and I don’t think they should.”
Highlighting the unpredictable nature of the music business, he drew parallels to sports, noting, “You can be the most talented person and end up with nothing; it’s like football.” Reminisce reflected on friends who had professional deals while others struggled to find success, reinforcing his belief that education should come first.
He stated, “While I would support my children’s ambitions in music, I’d insist they prioritize their education. If they want to pursue music later, I’m all for it, but I won’t push them into it as a first choice. It’s really tough, and less than 5% of people truly make it in this industry.”
Reminisce also underscored the necessity of having a backup plan, likening the music industry to a high-stakes lottery. “For every Ronaldo, there are 9,000 who didn’t make it,” he explained. “It’s essential to have something to fall back on in case it doesn’t work out. I won’t convince my children that success will automatically come just because it did for me. The odds are tough.”
