Police Fight Off bandits, rescue seven victims in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt, rescuing seven victims from armed bandits along Magama-Katsina Road.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, reported a harrowing incident that took place on Friday night at around 11:15 p.m. Armed bandits, in significant numbers, ambushed the Kukar Babangida Bridge on the Magama-Katsina Road. The bandits intercepted a J5 vehicle, kidnapped all seven occupants, and, in a shocking act of violence, set the vehicle ablaze before fleeing into the night.

However, the swift and coordinated response of security forces turned the tide. A combined team of police officers, local vigilantes, and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle. The operation resulted in the successful rescue of all seven hostages. One of the victims sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation and is currently receiving medical care.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised the bravery and quick action of the officers involved in the rescue operation. He reaffirmed the police command’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the lives and property of the state’s residents. CP Musa also called on the public to continue their support by providing timely and accurate information, which is crucial in the ongoing fight against crime and banditry in Katsina State.
