Nigerian comedian Ali Baba recently recounted a harrowing experience involving former military leader Sani Abacha, which he termed a ‘near-death experience.’ During an event in Abuja, where the Akwa Ibom cultural group was to perform, Ali Baba boldly asked Abacha to remove his sunglasses for the performance.
After a tense moment, Abacha obliged, and the comedian humorously chose to sit next to him rather than retreat backstage, where security operatives were waiting. In a surprising twist, Abacha gifted him the sunglasses after the encounter.
