“He can stay for 20 years and not play” -Maresca

Maresca was subjected to a barrage of difficult questions over Chelsea’s unstable transfer market during a heated press conference on Wednesday. The Blues have come under fire for yet another extravagant summer of spending that has caused their roster to grow to 44 players. Joao Felix, a winger for Atletico Madrid, was another player Chelsea acquired on Wednesday for €50 million. Felix’s arrival virtually marked the end of Sterling’s Chelsea tenure. Following the Englishman’s exclusion from the squad for the season’s first match against Man City, Maresca acknowledged that Sterling had no future with the team.

On Wednesday, Maresca made it quite apparent that Sterling would not be part of his plans. According to the Italian manager, Chilwell was in a similar situation. However, what drew criticism was the harsh way he broke the news. What was said by Maresca? Maresca remarked, “I just try to be honest.” Before the Man City match, I told Raheem that he would have a hard time playing for us. I told Chilly that although he is a kind guy, he will struggle due of his position. “I am not saying Raheem is not a good player but I prefer different kinds of wingers – that’s why.”

“I am not saying Raheem is not a good player but I prefer different kinds of wingers – that’s why.” “When Raheem contacted his reps for clarification following the game, I didn’t see him. I’ll tell Raheem the same things I told him if we sit down. Everything was obvious. “How long a player’s deal is is not my concern; I’m not considering the number of years on the contract; it is not my job. If I don’t like them, even though they have a six-year contract? I don’t care if they have a 20-year deal. “I work with players who are 21/22. I’m not working with forty-two people. Over fifteen players train independently and not with the team.
