The Lagos State Task Force has issued a response to a viral video that claimed its officials were unlawfully collecting tolls from pedestrians using the Oshodi pedestrian bridge. The Task Force characterized these allegations as “false and misleading.”
In a statement released by Mr. Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the Director of Public Affairs, the Task Force affirmed that it does not impose any charges or authorize toll collection for pedestrian bridges. The officials stationed at these locations are there to ensure safety and promote the use of the bridges to protect public well-being.

The statement emphasized: “Officials of the Lagos State Task Force and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) are present at pedestrian bridges to enforce their usage for public safety and the preservation of human lives, not to extort pedestrians.” The agency has urged the public to report any illegal activities through the proper government channels.
Additionally, the Oshodi pedestrian bridge has been experiencing significant congestion following the closure of the main pedestrian bridge in January 2025 due to structural concerns and safety risks. This situation has forced pedestrians to rely on the alternative bridge, resulting in overcrowding.
To address these challenges, the Lagos State Government has taken action against individuals exploiting the situation and illegally extorting money from pedestrians. Law enforcement agencies have been notified, and measures are in place to monitor the situation closely.
The congestion on the bridge has been described as akin to a “bumper-to-bumper jam,” creating frustration for pedestrians and raising safety and security concerns. Although the timeline for reopening the main pedestrian bridge remains uncertain, the state government is actively working to alleviate congestion and enhance safety on the alternative bridge.
