Fubara Addresses Supporters After Supreme Court Ruling

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has spoken to his supporters, motivating them to remain resilient amidst current political difficulties. This comment follows the Supreme Court’s recent ruling to annul the local government election set for October 5, 2024, and to allow Speaker Martin Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers to keep their positions until further legal actions are resolved.

Moreover, the Supreme Court has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to suspend allocations to Rivers State until the government complies with the court’s directives. During the inauguration of the Government House Staff Quarters in Port Harcourt on March 3, Fubara reassured his supporters by stressing the importance of valuing truth over fleeting political gains. He remarked, “I want you to be in your highest spirit. It is not about who wins; it’s about the glory and the honour of fighting gallantly.”

In response to worries regarding governance, Fubara dismissed assertions that there is a lack of effective leadership, claiming that his administration remains committed to meaningful governance. “I must continue to tell the world that against what is being said, there is legitimate, purpose-driven governance in Rivers State,” he affirmed.

Fubara, who has been facing persistent political challenges, indicated that he plans to take decisive actions in the future and promised the youth clear direction at the appropriate moment. He reiterated his commitment to non-violence, but indicated he would take initiative when critical decisions are required: “In as much as I don’t subscribe to violence, when the time comes for us to take a decision, I will lead the cause for that decision.”

Despite the possibility of being ousted from office, Fubara conveyed his confidence, stating, “Let me say it again, I am not scared of anything. The worst that will happen is for me to leave the office. Am I leaving the earth?” He urged the residents of Rivers State to take control of their future, cautioning that those currently backing misguided initiatives might ultimately regret their choices.

Additionally, the governor emphasized the significance of the newly inaugurated staff quarters, which he believes will improve the living standards of government workers in the state.
