In a decisive crackdown on waste management violations, 75 residents of Ilorin, Kwara State, have been convicted in just one week for improper refuse disposal, according to DAILY POST.
The state government has implemented strict penalties, including up to three months in jail or fines between N30,000 and N50,000, as part of its efforts to curb environmental health hazards.
State Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, emphasized the importance of Waste Management Consultants' proactive involvement and inspected their operational vehicles to ensure their effectiveness. She stressed the government's commitment to eradicating indiscriminate refuse dumping and maintaining a healthy environment.
In a recent court session, an additional 14 individuals were sentenced to three-month jail terms, bringing the total convictions in the past week to 75. This robust enforcement highlights the government's dedication to fostering a cleaner, safer Kwara State.
Chairman of the Association of Waste Consultants, Alhaji Zakariyahu Tahir, praised the commissioner’s efforts, underscoring the positive impact of these measures on the community.
