5 die, 9 injured in Abakaliki-Enugu expressway auto crash
Five people have died and nine others were injured in a serious accident on the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway after a Hummer bus lost control and crashed, according to the FRSC.
A tragic accident on the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway has left at least five people dead and nine others severely injured. The incident occurred late Thursday night at the G-Hostel junction, as confirmed by Mr. Igwe Nnabuife, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi State.
According to Nnabuife, a white Hummer bus with the registration number LSR 823 YJ lost control and crashed into debris at a road maintenance site before catching fire. “The commercial bus was carrying 16 passengers at the time. Unfortunately, five lost their lives in the accident, while nine others sustained injuries,” he reported.
The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki and are reportedly responding well to care. Meanwhile, the deceased have been taken to the hospital's morgue following confirmation of their deaths by medical professionals.
Nnabuife emphasized the importance of safe driving practices, urging drivers to avoid reckless behavior and to be particularly cautious of poor road conditions to prevent further tragedies.
