13 suspected internet fraudsters arrested in Akwa Ibom

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made headlines after arresting 13 suspected internet fraudsters in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Uyo Zonal Directorate swooped down on the suspects during a sting operation on Monday, October 7, 2024.
Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, confirmed the arrests in an official statement. The operation led to the recovery of several high-value items, including four luxury vehicles—two Lexus 350 saloon cars, a Toyota Camry V6, and a Toyota Corolla—as well as six laptops and 20 smartphones believed to be used in fraudulent activities.
“The suspects were apprehended in the Nwaniba area of Uyo based on intelligence linking them to fraudulent internet operations,” Oyewale revealed in the press release. He assured that the suspects would be brought to justice, stating they would face charges in court once investigations are fully completed.
This operation is part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on cybercrime and bring internet fraudsters to book, reinforcing the commission's dedication to maintaining law and order in Nigeria’s digital landscape.
